In 2016-17, we worked with acclaimed director Baz Luhrmann on his latest project, The Get Down, a Netflix drama about the birth of hip hop in the Bronx. Pig Apple produced and directed all of the cartoon sequences in Season 2.

Working so closely with Baz Luhrmann was a career highlight director Mack Williams. Together they developed a stylized, animated universe featuring many of the live-action characters from the show.

In this episode, rapper Freddie Gibbs talks about his experience welcoming Michael Jackson back to his hometown of Gary, IN.

Other episodes featured Danny Brown, GZA, Wavves, Melvins, The Lonely Island, Marc Maron, and Waka Flocka Flame.

Whether it's animated comedy or serious live-action production, Pig Apple has always been about one thing: making the kind of stuff that we'd want to watch.

We met as college students, producing sketch comedy for our dorm's public-access cable channel. Today, we are Brooklyn-based storytellers with over sixty years of combined experience and a track record of turning challenging briefs into standout content.

Our comedy background wasn't just fun — it was training. Comedy demands perfect timing, clear character motivation, and understanding what keeps audiences engaged. Those same principles drive every Pig Apple production, whether it's a 30-second spot, a complex VFX sequence, or an animated short. We may have grown up a bit, but we haven't grown boring.

Pig Apple's first independent animated short is an adaptation of the long-running, absurdist webcomic Pokey the Penguin.

In the Arctic Circle, we meet Mr. Nutty, an alcoholic snowman whose latest con has backfired spectacularly. With the church and the state hot on his trail, only his good friend Pokey the Penguin has the wits to save him.

These are the humans (and one very good dog) behind Pig Apple. We're directors, animators, VFX artists, and producers who've worked on everything from Sesame Street to Saturday Night Live. What unites us? A shared love of storytelling, an unhealthy obsession with getting the details right, and the belief that work should be fun — even when the deadlines aren't.

01

Ed Mundy is a director and animator living in Brooklyn. He’s directed videos for the likes of Upright Citizens Brigade, Nerdist, and IFC, and created visual effects and animation for shows like Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Archer, and (to appeal to as many demos as possible) Sesame Street. He was a member of UCB Comedy's web video sketch teams since 2009, which, I’m pretty sure, was before web videos had been invented.

From small-town Georgia to big-time animation, Mack has built his career one frame at a time. Starting as a designer on Adult Swim's cult classic Sealab 2021 at 70-30 Productions, he quickly evolved into an animation director and producer, ultimately helming the acclaimed FX series Archer at Floyd County Productions. His diverse portfolio spans preschool cartoons and late night comedy, working for heavyweights like NBC, Amazon, Apple TV+, Univision, and Comedy Central. This Blackshear, GA native brings both technical expertise and Southern charm to every project — plus an encyclopedic knowledge the best barbecue joints in the country.

His directing and writing credits include networks such as Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, The New Yorker, IFC and Comedy Central Digital as well as commercial clients such as UPS, Jagermeister, Walmart, and Vox. He has won several awards for his web-series and short films. Trevor first cut his teeth in showbiz as a comedian and commercial actor before becoming an in-house director of scores of video at UCB Comedy and ultimately teaming up with his college buddies and genius collaborators Ed and Mack to form Pig Apple.
